Foomatic was started in 2012 when two founding members, James Meisler and Tim McQueen, identified the need for a Makerspace in the Montgomery, AL area.  Originally located in the garage of the third member, Joe Birdwell, Foomatic eventually relocated to a location on N. Perry St.  In 2014 Foomatic found a permenant home in a workshop attached to the Jubilee Community Center, located on Goldthwaite St. the former location of the Montgomery Little Theater.

In 2013 Foomatic was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the State of Alabama, and in 2015 the IRS granted them 501(c)3 status.
